FAQs

What happens in therapy?
Counseling can help with a variety of problems and situations for you or your loved one.  It's a confidential way to explore your situation, to feel heard without judgment and to better understand yourself and others.  You simply share whatever you are comfortable with. Depending on your situation, we may set some goals and then we'll work together to help you move forward.

Friends and family can be excellent sources of support, but they have not received the training of a counselor.  Licensed counselors have Master's Degrees in Counseling Psychology, have passed rigorous licensing exams and must be screened and monitored by state boards.  We have been trained in a variety of theories and techniques that have been proven to help individuals heal, move through the challenges they face and improve their overall mental health.  Counseling is a great investment for your peace, your relationships and your happiness!

Insurance Information
I am an approved provider for BCBS, Aetna, and Optum/United Healthcare. Please contact your provider first to verify mental health benefits, copay and deductibles. If I am not a provider for your insurance, you may still be able to see me through your out of network benefits where your insurance company would reimburse you for sessions.

If you have Medicaid or Medicare, you can contact them directly and request a list of their providers. At this time, Medicare only covers counseling through an LCSW (licensed clinical social worker) or a psychologist - NOT LPCs like myself.

Please keep in mind that when using insurance for counseling purposes, you should be aware of several items.  I will be required to diagnose you with a brain disorder and share that information with your insurance company.  This diagnosis may become a part of your permanent record and could affect military service, life insurance, or employment. Insurance companies may also determine the length of our sessions and ask for reviews of your records and progress. Some individuals are not comfortable with being diagnosed with a disorder and allowing insurance to obtain their private information so they self-pay for their mental health services. The choice is yours.

Hours and options
Session hours are available from 10 am - 6 pm Tuesday through Thursday. I handle all aspects of my private practice to ensure your confidentiality. Please contact me here if you would like to request an appointment or have questions.

Private pay/Payment policies

Individuals
  • Regular appointment (55 mns) $115
  • Initial appointment (70-75 mns) $135
Couples*
  • Regular appointment (50-55 mns) $120
  • Initial appointment (70-75 mns) $155
*Couples counseling may or may not be covered by your insurance company. One individual will need to have had a diagnosis and the counseling is then focused on supporting treatment of the diagnosis. We will discuss this at the 1st session.

NOTE: Payment is always collected at the time of each appointment by cash, check, paypal or credit card. I do not work with court cases or disability determinations, please see your primary doctor or a psychiatrist for assistance.

Cancellation policy
Cancellations less than 24 hours will incur a full session fee. If there are excessive cancellations, you may be required to prepay your sessions to schedule time on the calendar. This helps ensure I can utilize cancellations for individuals that are on the waiting list to be seen.

Successful outcomes
The success of counseling depends greatly on your own efforts and desire, because of this, I cannot guarantee success of your treatment.  However, you can expect that I will always be prepared for your session with the main purpose of addressing your needs and goals you set.  Feel free to ask me any questions or to express concerns you may have during the counseling process.
